Our Information Literacy curriculum focuses on a variety of topics including book care and check-out, storytime, literary authors and genres, computer skills, current events, parts of a book, fiction vs. non-fiction, biographies and autobiographies, learning the ins and outs of the Dewey Decimal System, and literary awards and honors such as the Maryland Black-Eyed Susan Book Award. Our Library Media Specialist plans numerous events throughout the school year that engage and excite students to discover a lifelong love of reading. Some highlights include: book clubs, contests, author visits, Read Across America Week, book tastings, and of course our annual Scholastic Book Fair. We have created a warm and welcoming library with lots of cozy reading areas, a well-curated selection of books, different learning centers, and even our very own Book Vending Machine!
Our Media/Technology Coordinator teaches students keyboarding skills, online safety, word processing, presentation tools, Digital Citizenship, and print/online research methods such as locating, evaluating, and comparing information. These important skills help students with many classroom assignments and set them up for a successful future.
