Do you know about our enrichment programs? Our teachers, staff, and other program leaders put a lot of effort into preparing engaging and interesting programs for our students. One such program is the "Cooking and Baking" class taught by Mrs. Crumback. The class begins with everyone sitting down together in a circle and reading a book that relates to the day's dishes; this week, our students made pizza from scratch. After washing up, students got started by measuring out the different ingredients--learning tricks along the way, such as using a spoon coated with olive oil to measure honey, so it won't stick, and how to knead like a pro. Our students also learned what part each ingredient plays in creating the dough, how yeast works, and how and why the dough rises. Another positive result of these classes has been some students overcoming picky eating habits, and becoming more open to trying new foods. It was such a pleasure to watch these happy students create their pizzas, giggling, munching on shredded cheese, and shaping their dough into big hearts! Thanks to Mrs. Crumback for putting your heart into this program.
