We are so excited to spotlight one of our esteemed alums, Alex Scott! Congratulations to Alex for earning his commercial pilot license! Alex just completed his college degree in Aeronautical Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in December 2020, including his commercial pilot license. Right now, he is getting ready to start training to become a Certified Flight Instructor at a local flight school. Since he can remember, Alex wanted to be a pilot, and everyone at St. John's wanted to help him fulfill his dream of becoming one. Read his interview below:
How has your education at St. John’s influenced or helped you in your life and career?
My education at St. John's helped me with forming the building blocks of good study and work habits. The most important thing I learned at St. John's was how to work in a team on group projects. I was a part of the junior gardening program, and I remember doing fun small projects in class that focused on teamwork. An example of when teamwork plays an important role in my job is when we're flying, one pilot is talking on the radio and running through a checklist while the pilot can focus on flying the plane.
What is your proudest accomplishment?
My proudest accomplishment is getting my private pilot license. This was a dream of mine since I was little, and to finally pass my check ride was a great feeling.
What do you miss the most about St. John’s?
I miss all the people I've met there. They were all nice and wanted to help you grow.
What does the future look like for you?
I plan to continue working hard toward my goal of becoming an airline pilot for Southwest.
We are so proud of Alex and wish him continued success in his journey!
